2013 Powerful Change Luncheon Raises $433,000 to Support Families Experiencing Crisis

Seattle, WA (April 30, 2013) – Wellspring Family Services is pleased to announce that $443,000 was raised at its annual Powerful Change Luncheon last Thursday, April 25th, 2013.  More than 850 community members, donors and sponsors gathered at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Seattle to support Wellspring services.  Eighty-seven percent of the funds raised will go directly toward mission-critical programs including early learning, housing placement services, and domestic violence education and intervention.

Several elected officials and mayoral candidates attended the event to demonstrate their support for homeless children and families in King County, including:  Seattle City Councilmember Sally Bagshaw, Seattle City Councilmember Tim Burgess (running for office of the Mayor), Seattle City Councilmember Richard Conlin, Deputy County Executive Fred Jarrett, Charlie Staadecker (running for office of the Mayor), Peter Steinbrueck (running for office of the Mayor), and David Loud, Community Liaison for Congressman Jim McDermott.

Wellspring was also pleased to welcome KIRO 7 News Anchor Steve Raible, who has served as emcee of the Powerful Change event for the past 16 years.  Guests also enjoyed a performance by Wellspring supporter Chris Ballew.  Ballew is also known as the lead singer for the band the Presidents of the United States of America and as “Caspar Babypants,” his stage name as a children’s music artist.
